hey {{first_name | friend}},

This one is for anyone whose digestion feels slow or irregular. If things already move fine for you, you can skip it.

Most people try prunes for a day or two, eat three, feel nothing and give up. The studies used a lot more than three.

Research suggests the amount is what matters. In one trial, people with constipation ate about 5 to 6 prunes twice a day for a few weeks. Their complete bowel movements roughly doubled, and prunes did a little better than a psyllium fiber supplement with the same amount of fiber.

That study was small and paid for by the prune industry. A later trial that also tested kiwifruit and psyllium found prunes did at least as well as both.

Research suggests part of the effect may come from sorbitol, a natural sugar in prunes that gently loosens things up, and not only from the fiber. In the first trial, everything went back to normal once people stopped eating them, so this works as a daily habit, not a one-time fix.

This goes beyond prunes. Food remedies often look useless because we test them at a token amount for two days, then move on. A real amount, eaten daily, is a much fairer test.

Here is the plan for the next two weeks.

Days 1 to 3: 3 prunes with breakfast and 3 in the afternoon, instead of your usual sweet snack
Days 4 to 7: 4-5 times 2x a day
Week 2: 5-6 times 2x a day

Easy ways in: keep a container on your desk or kitchen counter, chop a few into your oatmeal or yogurt, or pair them with a handful of nuts so they feel like a real snack.

Have a glass of water with each handful, since fiber tends to work better with plenty of fluid. The slow build-up is my own suggestion, so your gut has time to adjust. If things start moving a bit too quickly, just step back to the previous amount for a few days.

Give it the full two weeks before you decide whether it works for you. If constipation is new for you or does not ease with changes like this, or if kidney problems, a bowel condition or IBS are part of your picture, check with your doctor before starting.

Do you already eat prunes, and how many? Hit reply and tell me, I read every single one.
